[UPDATED] Covid-19 cases drop under 2,000-mark to 1,828

KUALA LUMPUR – The number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia dropped to 1,828 today, taking the cumulative tally to 302,580.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced five fatalities as a result of the virus, taking the death toll to 1,135.

Meanwhile, 2,486 recoveries were logged, adding up to a total of 275,903 discharges overall.

A total of 198 patients are in intensive care, with 90 needing breathing support.

Johor recorded the highest number of cases at 490, followed by Selangor (463), Sarawak (220), Perak (144), and Sabah (104).

Penang registered 85 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (75), Kelantan (36), Kedah (16), Terengganu (15), Pahang (8), Melaka (8), Putrajaya (6), and Perlis (1).

Labuan did not record any new cases today.

Dr Noor Hisham said that 113 cases are related to detention centres, namely the Tembok Tapah (80), Telok Mas (7), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (7), Tembok Taiping (6), Seberang Perai Prison (5), Tembok Bendera (4), Jalan Sg Jelok (3), and Tembok Bukit Besi (1) clusters.

He said Sabah and Kuala Lumpur recorded two deaths each, followed by one death in Melaka. All of the deceased were locals.

Dr Noor Hisham also said the country has seen a total of 1,145 clusters, including seven new ones.

The country saw an end to 657 clusters, including 10 today, comprising the Pasir Barat, Sri Suria, Nilam Tiga, Persiaran Sabak, Tembok Kemus, Intan Delima, Pengerang Utara, Sg Purun, Lapangan Siber, and Bedayan clusters.

Five out of the seven new clusters are workplace-related, while one is community-related and another involves a high-risk group.

Selangor logged the Desa Empat cluster in the Kuala Selangor district with 18 cases, followed by the Jalan Melati cluster in Gombak with seven cases.

Johor saw the Jalan Kempas Tiga cluster in Muar with 344 cases, and the Kg Sg Burung cluster in Pontian with 22 cases, as well as the Jalan Wawasan 12 cluster in Batu Pahat with seven cases.

Kuala Lumpur recorded the Jalan Cempedak cluster in Kepong with 10 cases, while Kelantan logged the Bukit Marak cluster in Kota Baru and Bachok with 66 cases. – The Vibes, March 1, 2021
