KUALA LUMPUR – The downward trend in Malaysian Covid-19 cases continued today, with 1,555 infections logged compared with 1,828 cases recorded yesterday.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah told a press conference today that the fresh cases take the nation’s tally to 304,135.
He added that there were six new deaths today, taking the death toll to 1,141. Three of the deaths occurred in Selangor, while Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, and Perak saw one death each. Five of the fatalities involved locals, while the remaining one was a non-citizen.
A total of 2,528 recoveries were also recorded, taking the total of discharged patients to 278,431. There are 204 cases in intensive care, where 96 of them require breathing support.
Selangor recorded the highest number of new infections today with 672 cases, followed by Johor (163), Sarawak (159), Kuala Lumpur (145), Negri Sembilan (115) and Penang (106).
Other states and territories to be affected were Perak (63), Sabah (53), Kelantan (46), Kedah (11), Melaka (11), Terengganu (7), Pahang (3) and Putrajaya (1).
Perlis and Labuan did not record any new cases today.
Dr Noor Hisham reported that 47 of the new cases discovered today are related to clusters in detention centres. These clusters are in Jalan Harapan Prison (24 cases), Tembok Taiping (9), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (8), Jalan Sungai Jelok Prison (4), Tembok Tapah (1) and Telok Mas (1).
In total the country has detected 1,152 clusters since the pandemic began, including seven new clusters today. Out of the new clusters, six are related to workplaces, and the remainder involved a high-risk group.
Conversely, a total of 663 clusters have been ressolved, including six that ended today – namely the Jalan Kluang, Taman Sejahtera, Jalan Labuk, Jalan Ragum, Industri Indah, and Jalan Mega clusters.
Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor saw the Taman Alam cluster detected in the Petaling district with 23 cases; the Jalan Mawar cluster in Hulu Langat (10); and the Sementa 27 cluster found in Petaling, Klang, Kuala Selangor, and Kuala Langat (13 cases).
In Johor, the new Jalan DBP Enam cluster in Johor Baru saw 36 cases detected, and the Jalan Cyber Satu cluster in Kulai and Kota Tinggi had nine cases.
Penang recorded the Persiaran Bayan Indah cluster in the southwest and northeast districts of the island, and the central and northern districts of Seberang Perai, with 25 cases.
Negri Sembilan saw the Jalan Bukit Blossoms cluster detected in Seremban with 18 cases. – The Vibes, March 2, 2021.
