KUALA LUMPUR – The number of new Covid-19 cases remains below 2,000 today, with 1,745 infections logged, said the Health Ministry.
The country also registered another seven coronavirus deaths.
The ministry said overall infections now stand at 395,880, with 1,148 fatalities.
Malaysia recorded 2,276 fresh recoveries, taking the total to 280,707.
There are 195 Covid-19 patients in intensive care, with 95 requiring intubation, said the ministry.
Selangor saw the most new cases with 640, followed by Johor (376), Sarawak (139), Perak (136), Sabah (95), Kuala Lumpur (92) and Penang (90).
Kedah saw 40 cases, followed by Pahang (36), Melaka (36), Kelantan (33), Negri Sembilan (24), Terengganu (5) and Putrajaya (3).
Perlis and Labuan did not record fresh infections.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 47 cases are related to clusters in detention centres – Telok Mas (20 cases), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (13), Damai Pelangi (13) and Jalan Sg Jelok (1).
He said two of the deaths today were recorded in Kuala Lumpur, and one each in Selangor, Sarawak, Sabah, Johor and Kelantan. Six fatalities were Malaysians.
He said the country has 1,163 virus clusters, including 11 new ones.
Of the total, 676 clusters have been contained, including 13 today – Usaha, Jalan Timah Dua, Bukit Sekubong, Jalan Kinabenua, Presint 7 construction site, Jalan Sejahtera, Jalan Sulaman, Jalan Menerung, Sri Petaling construction site, Jalan Keluli, Kebor Air, Jalan Rantau-Siliau and Seri Lanang.
A total of 487 clusters remain active, with 74 fresh cases recorded.
The clusters with the highest number of new infections are Batu Empat (198 cases), Jalan Pelabuhan (128) and Jalan DPB Lima (32).
Nine of the 11 new clusters are workplace-related, while one surfaced following community detection, and the other, from a high-risk group.
Selangor detected the Jalan Perubatan cluster in Hulu Langat with 13 cases, followed by the Jalan Utarid cluster in the same district and Petaling with 16.
The state also has the Jalan MP construction site cluster in Petaling with 12 cases, Balakong Satu cluster in Hulu Langat with 10, and Jalan Anak Gasing cluster in Petaling with 20.
Johor logged the Jalan DBP Lima cluster in the state capital with 32 cases, and Negri Sembilan saw the Jalan Sikamat Lama cluster in Seremban with 12. Kedah recorded the Jalan PKNK 1/6 cluster in Kuala Muda with 29 cases.
Melaka detected the Kg Gedang cluster in Alor Gajah and central Melaka, which extended to Petaling district in Selangor and Johor Baru in Johor, with 35 cases.
Pahang registered the Sri Jelutung cluster in Pekan with 30 cases, while Kelantan logged the Jalan Bachok cluster in Bachok and Pasir Puteh with 14. – The Vibes, March 3, 2021
