KUALA LUMPUR – The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2021 (LIMA21) will not be held this year despite calls for it to be conducted virtually, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the ministry has received many proposals to organise LIMA21 – whose cancellation due to Covid-19 was announced earlier – including for the event to be held online.

He said the exhibition will return in 2023.

“The plan to hold LIMA in 2023 is maintained, and there is no change so far.

“Apart from that, many are of the view that by then, Covid-19 vaccination worldwide would have been completed,” he said on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme last night.

LIMA21 had been scheduled from March 16 to 20.

On the Defence Services Asia (DSA) exhibition, Ismail Sabri said it may be held next year.

“My ministry is awaiting a decision by the policy division on DSA 2022.”

It is tentatively scheduled for March 28 to 31 next year.

The event will focus on, among others, cyber defence, long-range control systems and healthcare in the battlefield. – Bernama, March 5, 2021
