KUALA LUMPUR – E-commerce platform Shopee has denied that the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine is being sold on the site, as alleged in a photo that was widely shared on Twitter and WhatsApp this week.
In a statement today, it confirmed that no such listing has been found on the platform.
“The author of the tweet has confirmed that the image was doctored and indeed fake.
“Covid-19 immunisation is a national health matter that should not be trivialised.”
Yesterday, the Health, and Science, Technology and Innovation Ministries, as well as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), said the alleged sale of the vaccine online is fake news.
Shopee reminded the public that false information on the vaccine is being monitored by police and MCMC.
Two days ago, an edited photograph of Pfizer’s coronavirus jab being offered for sale on Shopee, at a price of RM63.88, went viral. – Bernama, March 5, 2021
