KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today logged 1,280 fresh cases of Covid-19 today and nine deaths, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

The new cases today, the lowest seen in over two months, brings the cumulative number to 316,269. The infections today also marks an all-time low since the 1,196 cases recorded on December 27.

In a statement, Dr Noor Hisham said the country also recorded 2,345 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 296,379. The death toll stands at 1,186.

Two of today’s new cases were imported, he said.

Of the 18,704 active cases, 155 are under intensive care, with 76 requiring breathing assistance.

Selangor recorded the most cases with 464, followed by Johor (165), Sarawak (163), Penang (143), Kuala Lumpur (119), and Sabah (64).

Negri Sembilan logged 45 cases, followed by Terengganu (36), Perak (34), Kedah (25), Kelantan (16), Putrajaya (three), and Perlis (one).

Melaka and Labuan did not recorded any new cases today.

Dr Noor Hisham said five cases were reported in detention centres involving the Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (two cases), Jalan Harapan prison (two cases), and Jalan Awang (one case) clusters.

He said four deaths were recorded in Selangor and one death each in Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu, Perak, Sabah, and Sarawak.

Eight of the deaths involved locals, while one is a non-citizen.

Dr Noor Hisham said the country has recorded a total of 1,212 clusters, including nine new clusters.

Clusters that have ended are at 755, including 19 clusters today comprising the Persiaran Teknologi, Lestari, Jalan Masjid, Senai City Lapan, Jalan Mohammed Salleh, Tersat, Parit Jamil Darat, Lorong Mawar, Jalan Tan, Besi Cyber, Jalan Parit Mesjid, Lengkok Emas, Jalan Chester, Lingkaran Cyber, Parit Penyengat, Persiaran Raya, Jalan Klang construction sire, Jalan Platinum, and Jalan Kerinchi clusters.

He said six out of the nine new clusters today are workplace clusters, while two are community-based and one is a high-risk group.

Selangor logged the Lorong Kilang cluster in the Petaling and Klang district with 41 cases, while Johor recorded the Jalan Nusa Mega cluster in Johor Baru with 36 cases, Jalan Setia Jaya cluster in Batu Pahat with 28 cases, and Jalan Industri A1 cluster in Tangkak with 21 cases.

Penang recorded the Medan Bayan Lepas clusters scattered throughout Seberang Prai with 65 cases, while Kuala Lumpur detected the Jalan U-Thant construction site cluster in Titiwangsa with 35 cases and the Jalan Salak construction site cluster with 16 cases.

In Kedah, the Amanjaya cluster was detected in Kuala Muda, Pendang, and Yan with 16 cases, while the Sg Lembing cluster in Kuantan, Pahang, logged 13 cases. – The Vibes, March 9, 2021
