KUALA LUMPUR – The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Flat Sibu Jaya in Sibu, Sarawak, will be lifted tomorrow, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“The government implemented the EMCO at Blocks C, H, K, L, N and R, slated to end tomorrow.
“The Health Ministry has conducted 6,875 screenings, with a total of 390 (Covid-19) cases reported.
“Since active cases are on a downtrend and under control, it is decided that the EMCO will be lifted as scheduled,” he said in his daily update on coronavirus-related security matters today.
He said police have arrested another 451 individuals for violating virus standard operating procedures, with 393 people issued compounds and 58 detained.
The offences include failure to provide items needed to record personal details (129 cases), entertainment centre activities (82), failure to observe social distancing (79), prostitution activities (75), failure to wear a mask (149), unauthorised interstate travel (28), and premises operating beyond the mandated hours (9).
Ismail Sabri said 141,077 individuals returned to Malaysia between July 24 last year and yesterday, undergoing mandatory quarantine at 77 hotels and 11 public training institutions.
“Some 7,300 people are still undergoing quarantine, while 1,001 have been sent to hospital for treatment. Some 132,776 individuals were allowed to return home.”
He said Ops Benteng, mounted by agencies including police, the Immigration and Customs Departments, as well as the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, led to the arrest of 24 illegal immigrants and seizure of six vehicles. – The Vibes, March 10, 2021
