KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia detected 1,647 fresh cases of Covid-19 today with nine deaths, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said the new infections bring the cumulative number to 319,364 and the death toll to 1,200.
The country also recorded 2,104 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 300,620.
Five of the new cases were imported.
Out of the 17,544 active cases, 147 were under intensive care, and 61 required intubation.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 712, followed by Johor (170), Penang (169), Sarawak (168), Kuala Lumpur (86), and Negri Sembilan (79).
Perak logged 69 cases, followed by Melaka (71), Sabah (61), Kelantan (28), Kedah (18), Pahang (seven), Terengganu (four), Perlis (two), Putrajaya (two), and Labuan (one).
Dr Noor Hisham said 116 cases are related to detention centres – the DTI Machap Umboo cluster (67 cases), Tembok Tapah cluster (38), Tembok Mempaga cluster (five), Jalan Harapan prison cluster (thre), DTI Persiaran Wawasan cluster (two), and Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster (one).
He added that four deaths were reported in Selangor, two in Johor and one each in Perak, Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur. All of the cases involved Malaysian citizens.
The country has also detected a total of 1,222 clusters since last year, including five new ones today.
Dr Noor Hisham said three out of the five new clusters detected today are related to workplaces, while one is from a detention centre and another from the community.
In Selangor, the Jalan Kenangan construction site cluster was recorded in the Klang district with 31 cases, while in Johor, the Teknologi Tenggara cluster in Batu Pahat has 12 cases.
Johor also has the Jalan Masyur Enam cluster in Johor Baru with 52 cases.
Melaka detected the Machap Umboo cluster in Alor Gajah with 83 cases, and Sabah recorded the Jambatan Satu Bombalai cluster in Kalabakan with 15 cases.
A total of 440 clusters remained active, of which 65 have new cases. The clusters with the most number of new cases are the Queens Waterfront construction site cluster (70 cases), Industri Sungai Gadut cluster (68), and DTI Machap Umboo cluster (67).
Some 782 clusters have ended, including 14 today.
They are the Dialisis Masjid Tanah, Taman Bukit Petaling, Yayasan, Kg Tanjung Selabu, Jalan Raja Muar, Jalan Berhala, Sri Menanti, Jalan Pengiran, Lebuh Karak, Jalan Puchong construction site, Jalan Chulan construction site, Sri Muda, Taman Murni and Taman Ikan Jinak clusters. – The Vibes, March 11, 2021
