KOTA KINABALU – Sabah recorded a new Covid-19 cluster today after a 59-year-old woman in Bombalai, Kalabakan who was positive with the virus organised a Muslim celebration for a newborn in her house.

In a statement, Sabah’s Covid-19 official spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said that the new cluster, named Jambatan 1 Bombalai, recorded four new Covid-19 cases today, making a total of 15 positive cases in the cluster.

“The cluster started from the index case, a 59-year-old woman who lives in Kg Jambatan 1 Bombalai, Kalabakan, who tested positive after she experienced symptoms in Tawau Medical Centre on February 26.

“The woman had held a ‘kenduri aqiqah’ (Muslim newborn celebration) on February 20.

“From 41 close contacts screened on March 1, a total of 14 were tested positive with the virus. Identification of close contacts and source of the virus is still ongoing,” Masidi said.

He also said that a total of 2,484 people have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccination today, making a sum of 19,032 people vaccinated in Sabah to date.
