KUALA LUMPUR – The National Landscape Department has denied claims that the event Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin officiated on Saturday is a “fun ride”, insisting instead that it is merely a cycling activity among staff members.
In a statement today, it said the activity was neither open to the public nor a competition, and only involved 30 staffers from the department Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation.
“The body temperatures of the cyclists were also taken before they entered the park.”
The department said the activity was meant to promote new norm practices while cycling, including ensuring social distancing and hygiene.
“Participants also carried out ‘plogging’ (an activity combining joining and picking up litter) in line with the agency’s role in public cleaning.”
Social media users yesterday lambasted Zuraida after she uploaded photos of her flagging off cyclists as part of the launch of Program Malaysia Prihatin Norma Baharu Berekreasi at the family recreational zone in Bukit Kiara Federal Park here.
Someone pointed out that “fun rides” are included in the National Security Council’s negative list of activities for states under the conditional movement control order (CMCO).
The department said apart from cycling, the programme also saw exercising activities, which are allowed at 50% the capacity of the location, with 3m physical distancing.
“We always refer and abide by government orders on CMCO standard operating procedures. The department also ensures visitors present adhere to these rules.” – The Vibes, March 15, 2021
