IPOH – Ramadan bazaars may be allowed this year, with improved standard operating procedures in place, said Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin.
She said the matter will first be discussed with the National Security Council (NSC).
“The ministry will look at the SOPs again, to make them better and more efficient.
“I do not see any problem, as open markets and pasar malam (night markets) have been allowed to operate.
“Inshaallah, Ramadan bazaars can resume,” she said after jointly launching the Robotic Artificial Intelligence app together with Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin at the Amanjaya Chicken Market here today.
The Federal Territories Ministry and Negri Sembilan government earlier agreed to allow Ramadan bazaars this year, but are awaiting a decision from NSC.
The Shah Alam City Council, meanwhile, has received 1,600 applications from traders to participate in Ramadan bazaars.
