BUTTERWORTH – A man pleaded guilty at the sessions court here today to charges of abusing and causing physical injury to a 7-month-old boy earlier this month.
The accused is 25-year-old Muhammad Fakhri Abdul Muthalib, who was in a relationship with the child’s mother.
Fakhri, who does not hold a permanent job, was charged with committing the offence in a room of an apartment in Jalan Harbor Place here about 9pm on March 6.
According to the charge sheet, the abuse resulted in the child sustaining injuries to the forehead, below the eyes, and abdomen.
Pursuant to Section 32(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, Fakhri faces a fine not exceeding RM50,000, or imprisonment not exceeding 20 years, or both.
The court has yet to hand down a sentence, pending a medical report from Seberang Jaya Hospital.
Judge Noor Aini Yusof set April 16 for sentencing, and allowed the accused bail at RM10,000 with one surety.
The case was handled by deputy public prosecutor Muhamad Syeqal Che Murat, while the accused was unrepresented. – Bernama, March 16, 2021
