KUALA LUMPUR – The Barisan Nasional coalition has set up a special task force to serve as a system of checks and balances in the Perikatan Nasional government for five areas.

In a statement last night, BN said the five areas are education, economy, law and democracy, national unity and Undi18.

BN executive secretary Mohamad Sahfri Ab Aziz said a meeting was held on March 3 to decide on the matter and the teams were agreed on by the coalition.

“The task force will act as (a system of) checks and balances on government services.”

Heading the education team is Umno’s Padang Terap MP, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, who is also a former education minister. He is also Umno vice-president and Tenaga Nasional Bhd chairman.

Meanwhile, leading the economic team is former finance minister II and Federal Territories Umno chief Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker and Umno’s Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said is tasked with the law and democracy team while Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah’s Richard Kastum will head the national unity team.

Lastly, MIC vice-president and former Cameron Highlands MP Sivarraajh Chandran will head the automatic 18-year-old voting team. – The Vibes, March 18, 2021
