MIRI – A group of mahjong players in Padawan, southern Sarawak – a Covid-19 red zone – has been indulging in two weeks of unfettered gambling until last night.
Their jolly ways were disrupted when four of them were arrested in a police raid.
Padawan district police chief Aidil Bolhassan said the four men aged between 52 and 55 were nabbed around 9pm in the midst of their mahjong session.
“The group has been gathering and playing mahjong in a house in Batu Kawa.
“One of the suspects said the house is owned by him, and his wife and children are living there too.
“The suspects admitted they have been gathering like this for the past two weeks, and they will be charged for illegal gambling,” he said in a statement today.
The police seized about RM4,000 in cash and the items used for the gambling activities. – The Vibes, March 18, 2021
