KUALA LUMPUR – Police will call up former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to take his statement over a video purportedly showing him violating standard operating procedures (SOPs) at a restaurant in Jalan Bukit Bintang here yesterday.
Bernama reported Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah as saying that Najib allegedly violated conditional movement control order (CMCO) SOPs by not undergoing a temperature scan or registering via the MySejahtera app at the restaurant.
“Investigations are ongoing under Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and Regulation 18, Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Control of Conditional Movement) Regulations (No. 4) 2021.
“The police will call all those involved in this case to testify in the near future,” he said in a statement today.
Zainal said the investigation paper will then be handed over to the public prosecutor’s office as soon as the investigation is completed.
Najib had yesterday taken to Facebook to admit that he violated CMCO SOPs and is ready to pay the penalty for them.
“I admit my mistake this time was not making the check-in myself, even though my officers had done so,” he said, adding that he normally abides by all SOPs in force.
“I ask the authorities to issue a penalty against me for this unintentional mistake.
“I will pay the summons for this mistake of mine voluntarily.
“There are no double standards in my terms.”
The one-minute, 39-second video purportedly shows Najib and several individuals arriving at a restaurant without having their temperature scanned or registering through the MySejahtera app.
The compound for not scanning with the MySejahtera app, as announced by the government recently, is RM1,500.
