KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 1,116 fresh cases of Covid-19 and five deaths, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In a statement, Dr Noor Hisham said the new cases bring the cumulative number of infections to 334,156 and the death toll to 1,238.

The country also recorded 1,495 recoveries today, pushing the total discharged to 318,784.

He said eight of the infections today were imported.

Of the 14,134 active cases, 156 are under intensive care while 60 require breathing assistance.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 403, followed by Kuala Lumpur (158), Sarawak (124), Penang (88), and Johor (86).

Kelantan logged 44 cases, followed by Pahang (42), Negri Sembilan (41), Perak (39), Sabah (36), Kedah (27), Melaka (12), Labuan (8), Terengganu (3), and Putrajaya (5).

Perlis did not record any new cases today.

Dr Noor Hisham said 77 cases are related to detention centres, namely, the Jalan Harapan prison (55), Tembok Tapah (8), Tembok Taiping (6), Jalan Awang (2), DTI Machap Umboo (2), DTI Sepang 2 (1), Telok Mas (1), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (1), and Tembok Bukit Besi (1) clusters.

He said the five deaths today involved one fatality each in Negri Sembilan, Sabah, Pahang, Penang, and Kuala Lumpur. Four of the deceased were locals while one was a non-citizen.

Dr Noor Hisham added that in total, the country has recorded 1,307 clusters, including 10 new clusters today.

A total of 896 clusters have ended, including 15 clusters today consisting of the Jalan Bursa, Selambau, Jalan Air Hitam, Jun Heng, Ladang Tangkarason, Industri Serkam,  Jalan Seroja, Jalan Telok Gong, Jalan Klinik, Plastik Subang, Jalan Stadium construction site, Jalan Kota, Batu Dua Setengah, Perdana Tiga, and Pasar Jalan Putra clusters.

He said 411 clusters remain active, of which 64 recorded new cases today. The clusters with the most new cases are the Jalan Usahawan construction site (70), Tg Suria (70), and Jalan Harapan (55) clusters.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that eight of the 10 new clusters detected are workplace clusters, while two are community clusters.

The sole new cluster in Selangor – Jalan Helang – was detected in Kuala Langat with 13 cases, while Kuala Lumpur recorded the Jalan Usahawan construction site cluster in Titiwangsa with 73 cases, as well as the Taman Tunku cluster in the same district and Kepong with seven cases.

Johor recorded the Jalan Tenteram cluster in Johor Baru with 10 cases, the Batu 22 cluster in Kulai with 13 cases, and the Jalan Belimbing cluster in Kulai with 10 cases.

Pahang logged the Jalan Gambang cluster in Kuantan with 24 cases, while Negri Sembilan detected the Industri Permata cluster in Seremban with 28 cases.

Meanwhile, Labuan detected the Jalan Kemajuan cluster with nine cases, and Sarawak saw the Ranjang cluster in Sarikei, Tg Manis, and Kuching with 29 cases. – The Vibes, March 22, 2021
