KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia has registered 1,384 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a slight rise compared with the 1,116 recorded yesterday.
This takes the cumulative number of cases in the country to 335,540.
Of the new cases, only nine are imported.
The Health Ministry also announced six fatalities to the virus, taking the death toll to 1,244.
The country also sees 1,058 recoveries, taking the total number to 319,842. Meanwhile, 148 remain in intensive care, with 62 requiring breathing support.
Selangor records the highest number of cases at 625, followed by Johor (161), Sarawak (140), Penang (100), Kelantan (65), Kuala Lumpur (64) Sabah (60) and Kedah (51).
Melaka registers 45 cases today, while Pahang has 38; Labuan, 14; Negri Sembilan, 10; Terengganu, seven; and Perak, four.
Perlis and Putrajaya do not have any new case today.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 37 cases are linked to detention centres, namely Jalan Harapan prison (29 cases), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (5), DTI Sepang (1), Jalan Awang (1) and Telok Mas (1).
Selangor and Sarawak each have two deaths, while Kelantan and Johor each have one death, he added.
Dr Noor Hisham said the country has seen 1,310 clusters so far, including three new clusters today – all workplace-related.
Selangor has the Balakong Jaya Dua cluster in Hulu Langat and Kuala Selangor with 37 cases, while Johor has the Jalan Indah Gemilang Satu cluster in Johor Baru with 78 cases.
In Penang, the Teknologi Bukit Minyak cluster in Seberang Prai has 98 cases.
A total of 911 clusters have ended, including 15 today – the Jalan Jitu, Penjara Kepayan, Perigi, Bestari Rantau, Jalan Kubur Darau, Semarak Bersia, Parit Lanjut, Tanah Putih, Gudang Salak Tinggi, Jalan Teknologi, Nanga Lijan, Univista, Kidurong Dua, Lot Tujuh and Lombong Timah clusters.
Of the 399 active clusters, 54 have new cases. The active clusters with the highest number of fresh infections are the Subang Dua cluster (185 cases), Kalan Indah Gemilang Satu (73) and Tg Suria (63). – The Vibes, March 23, 2021
