PORT DICKSON – Muslims are allowed to receive the Covid-19 vaccine during Ramadan, as the jab will not “invalidate” their fast.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said the decision was made at a special meeting of the National Islamic Religious Affairs Council’s muzakarah committee two months ago.
He said the fatwa council has decided that receiving the coronavirus vaccine is permissible during the fasting month.
“The whole world now allows (vaccination in Ramadan), and most recently, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia (Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh) noted the need to be vaccinated even in Ramadan, and that it does not break one’s fast,” he told reporters at Kolej Uniti Port Dickson here today.
The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, which is being implemented in three phases, kicked off on February 24, with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin being the first in the country to receive the jab. – Bernama, March 23, 2021
