[UPDATED] Covid-19 cases up to 1,360, S’gor tops with 356

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged a slight rise in daily Covid-19 cases at 1,360 compared to yesterday’s 1,268, bringing the cumulative caseload to 338,168.

Selangor remains at the top of the list with 356 fresh cases, followed by Sarawak (308), Johor (129) and Penang (113).

The rest of the states recorded fewer than 100 cases – Kuala Lumpur (98), Perak (71), Sabah (70), Kelantan (63), Negri Sembilan (49), Kedah (44), Melaka (32), Pahang (10), Putrajaya (8), Terengganu (6) and Labuan (3).

Perlis did not record any new cases.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country also recorded two deaths, pushing the death toll to 1,278 cases.

The country recorded 1,491 recoveries, raising the total discharged to 322,416.

He said only one case was imported, involving a non-citizen. Out of the 14,504 active cases, he said 157 are under intensive care, while 72 require intubation.

A total of 62 new cases in the last 24 hours were related to clusters in detention centres.

The clusters are Tembok Tapah (27 cases), Telok Mas (20), Tembok Muhasabah (12), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (1), Tembok Bukit Besi (1), and Tembok Sg Udang (1).

Both fatalities recorded today were in Sarawak and the victims were locals, Dr Noor Hisham said.

The country has also seen a total of 1,322 clusters, including eight new clusters today.

A total of 928 clusters have ended, including nine new ones, consisting of the Tapak Bina Lorong Peel, Industri Jalan Empat, Taman Integrasi, Jalan Tiga KKIP, Jalan Sepuluh, Jalan Tiga Belas, Guntong Dalam, Jalan Perindustrian Murni and Tapak Bina Indera Mahkota clusters.

Dr Noor Hisham said 394 clusters remain active, of which 55 saw new infections today. The clusters that saw the highest number of infections are the Jalan Faizal cluster (50 cases), Chupak cluster (47), and the Tg Genting cluster (44).

He said nine of the new clusters today are related to workplaces, and one came from the community.

Dr Noor Hisham added that from the 811 clusters recorded between January 1 until today, 15 were recorded in higher learning institutions, 11 in secondary schools, and five in the tahfiz and madrasah schools.

Selangor recorded the Persiaran Mentakab cluster in the Klang, Hulu Langat, and Gombak districts with seven cases, while Kuala Lumpur logged the Bandar Sri cluster in Cheras with 12 cases.

Sabah detected the Tenegang cluster in Kinabatangan with 20 cases, followed by the Siasai Tamu cluster in Kota Belud with 11 cases.

Kelantan recorded the Paloh Rambai cluster in Kota Baru with 20 cases, while Kedah saw the Perusahaan LPK cluster in Kuala Muda with 41 cases.

Finally, Labuan saw the Merinding cluster with five cases, and Putrajaya logged the Putra Satu cluster in Sepang with nine cases. – The Vibes, March 25, 2021
