KUALA LUMPUR – Taman Guru in Jalan Gambang, Kuantan, Pahang, as well as Kg Batu Gong and Kg Chupak in Siburan, Sarawak, will be placed under the enhanced movement control order from tomorrow until April 9.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this is to facilitate the Health Ministry’s efforts to carry out targeted screening and restrict movement to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“The ministry has confirmed that there has been a surge (in infections) in these localities, with a very high rate of infectivity,” he said in a statement this evening.
As of today, he said, 63 cases have been recorded in Taman Guru out of 178 people screened.
Fifty cases were reported in Kg Batu Gong and 57 in Kg Chupak, with 240 samples still awaiting results.
Ismail Sabri said 54 individuals were detained for flouting virus standard operating procedures, with 53 compounded and one remanded.
Among the offences are failure to provide materials for recording customers’ information (25 cases), not wearing a mask (17), attempting to travel across district and state lines (6), failure to observe physical distancing (5) and others (1).
He said Op Benteng yesterday saw five illegal immigrants arrested, and two land vehicles and two boats seized.
“Nine illegal immigrants were also turned away.”
There were 2,990 foreign workers who underwent swab tests yesterday, and 21 were found positive for the coronavirus.
So far, 654,071 such workers hired by 33,948 employers have been tested. – Bernama, March 26, 2021
