MUAR – The government will conduct a thorough study on whether interstate travel can be allowed for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations in May, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The prime minister hinted at the possibility of allowing Aidilfitri congregational prayers, as well as “takbir raya” and Raya visits to nearby homes, given that permission has been granted for mosques to hold tarawih prayers in the fasting month of Ramadan.
“Perhaps, after this, with Aidilfitri coming, maybe we can allow Aidilfitri prayers, as well as takbir raya and others, and after that, visits to next-door houses. But for interstate travel to balik kampung, I cannot give the answer yet.
“We have to study that carefully. God willing, it will be announced at the appropriate time,” he said during breakfast with the Bukit Kepong Felcra community here today.
Earlier, Muhyiddin, who is also Pagoh MP, reminded the community to continue to adhere to health and safety standard operating procedures to ensure Covid-19 cases in the country, including Johor, continue to drop.
“The situation in Johor has improved a little, but has yet to reach the level of the recovery movement control order.”
He said the pandemic has put Malaysia in the most difficult situation in its history, as the health crisis and its massive economic impact have had huge implications for the people’s lives.
With this in mind, he said, the Perikatan Nasional government has set aside a huge allocation, amounting to between RM325 billion and RM330 billion, to help citizens.
“We have disbursed a huge allocation to help the people. The purpose is to enable the people to continue to survive, to earn an income.”
Muhyiddin expressed hope that with the huge sum, the government and Malaysians are able to jump-start economic activities once more. – Bernama, March 27, 2021
