KUALA LUMPUR – The daily Covid-19 case log is under the 2,000-mark for the third consecutive week with 1,199 fresh infections today, as well as two deaths.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in the past 24 hours, 1,257 recoveries have been reported, putting the total number of active cases at 14,209.
“From the number of new cases today, 1,194 are local transmissions while five are imported, with 161 cases in intensive care and 70 requiring respirators,” he said in a statement today.
Selangor logged the highest daily figure with 283 cases, followed by Sarawak (267), Kelantan (138), Penang (125), Kuala Lumpur (84), Johor (81), Sabah (64), Negri Sembilan (43), Melaka (36), Kedah (33), Pahang (30), Perak (9), Terengganu (3), Labuan (2), and Putrajaya (1), while Perlis recorded zero cases today.
Dr Noor Hisham said the two deaths reported today involved one Malaysian man and one male foreigner aged 60 and 52, respectively, with histories of chronic illnesses.
Besides that, he said nine more clusters have been identified today, involving five workplace clusters and four community clusters.
The workplace clusters are Sabah’s Inanam Taipan and Jalan Kastam Baru clusters, Johor’s Jalan Kong Kong, Kuala Lumpur’s Pandan Circle construction site, and Pahang’s Jalan Putra Square, while the new community clusters comprise Sarawak’s Jalan Gridbid and Kg Baru Hilir clusters, as well as Kelantan’s Gong Kulim.
“The addition of these new clusters brings the total number of clusters in Malaysia to 1,344, with 392 of them still active and 10 having ended today,” he said. – Bernama, March 27, 2021
