KUALA LUMPUR – Sabah will be placed under the conditional movement control order (CMCO) for 14 days starting today, a change from its current recovery MCO (RMCO) status.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this is following an increase in Covid-19 red zones and decrease in green zones in the state.
Other states, meanwhile, will remain under their respective current restriction statuses for another two weeks.
Kelantan will be under MCO, while Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang and Sarawak remain under CMCO.
The nine remaining states and territories – Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Terengganu, Putrajaya and Labuan – will be under RMCO.
The restrictions take effect from April 29 to May 17 for all states other than Sarawak, which will be from April 27 to May 17.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri falls on May 13 and 14 this year.
According to Ismail Sabri, all existing standard operating procedures (SOPs) remain, including the prohibition against interstate travel.
“Only tourism activities and travelling between RMCO states are allowed through the green travel bubble concept, which has to be done via registered tourism agents and companies,” he told a press conference today.
“Inter-district travel is allowed in all states, other than Sabah and Sarawak, whose respective governments have banned such travel.”
Ismail Sabri said SOPs for the coming Hari Raya will be announced in due time, as the Islamic Development Malaysia Department (Jakim) is still ironing them out with the Health Ministry and National Security Council.
On speculation that inter-district travel will not be allowed five days before and after Hari Raya, he said this was fake news.
“I’ve already said that we will announce the SOPs soon, including on Aidilfitri prayers, visiting relatives and friends, and visiting cemeteries.
“As far as the ban on inter-district travelling, this is not true at all.” – The Vibes, April 27, 2021
