KUALA LUMPUR – Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his staff have collected RM500,000 in funds within 24 hours to be remitted immediately to Palestinians following recent clashes with the Israeli regime.

Speaking in a Facebook video post today, the Port Dickson MP thanked friends and staff who embarked on this campaign to solicit funds.

“We have collected RM500,000 and I have instructed my staff to disburse the funds immediately to Palestine for its welfare and whatever it requires to be done.

“I thank them again for this speedy action, notwithstanding the fact that we also have problems within this country.”

Despite the humanitarian appeal, Anwar said Western countries continue to be critical when it comes to condemning Nazism, white supremacy and apartheid, but condone the atrocities inflicted upon innocent people in Gaza.

“Today we are witnessing with despair and distraught the continued killing, murder, assassinations committed by the Zionist Israeli regime towards the women and children in the Gaza Strip.

“We are expected, of course, to do much more than that in a period where Muslim governments are weak, lacking in legitimacy, and lacking in courage and resolve to even speak up and defend the legitimate legislation of the Palestinian people.

“I continue to appeal to Malaysians to support this enterprise, support the cause of the Palestinian people through MyAqsaDefenders and other legitimate means to aid them so that monies can be gathered and disbursed immediately.

“God-willing, justice will prevail.”

MyAqsaDefenders, a coalition of 16 non-governmental organisations, aims to raise RM10 million in aid of the Palestinians.

As of yesterday, RM2 million has been collected and efforts will be heightened to achieve the target.
