KUALA LUMPUR – Foreign workers in essential services will get their Covid-19 jabs soon under an industrial vaccination programme, said Khairy Jamaluddin today.
The science, technology and innovation minister said he will announce details next week.
“Vaccination for foreign workers will be covered under the industrial vaccination programme, which will start very soon. I will announce next week the details of the programme, in which we will prioritise industries that are operating during the MCO (movement control order) period.
“We must give people who are in these industries, including migrant workers, the vaccine, and they will be vaccinated at the same time as local workers.”
Yesterday, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that all economic and social sectors, except those on the essential services list, will not be allowed to operate under the total lockdown that comes into force tomorrow.
These include offices, retailers, factories and malls, he said.
“In the case of malls, only tenants on the essential services list can operate.”
He said the goal is to reduce the movement of people, to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Only 17 essential sectors are allowed to operate, including food and beverage, health services including veterinary care, security services including welfare, and manufacturing. – The Vibes, May 31, 2021
