MIRI – Fresh Covid-19 outbreaks hit populated localities in the districts of Miri and Telang Usan, amid two more deaths and 682 new infections recorded today.
The deaths of a woman aged 83 in Mukah and a man aged 78 in Sibu takes the death toll from the pandemic to 382 in Sarawak.
“The two of them had no comorbidities when they died of Covid-19 in the hospitals,” said the State Disaster Management Committee today while expressing condolences to the affected families.
There were three fresh infection outbreaks in three different clusters with the first cluster, the Quadruplex Lapan Enam cluster in Miri, which is densely populated with thousands of residents, hit by an outbreak at the low-cost flats in the Permyjaya housing estate with 20 infections.
The Kevok cluster in Telang Usan district saw 58 Penan villagers in the Long Kevok longhouse infected.
The third cluster at Jalan Baru Tatau-Bintulu saw 22 workers at a workplace infected.
The secretariat said active tracing and screening are being carried out now in these affected areas.
There were 682 new positive cases today statewide.
Kapit district recorded the highest number with 121 new cases, Kuching 83, Sibu 75, Bintulu 69, Telang Usan 68, Tanjung Manis 48, Tatau 36, Miri 28, Sarikei 27, and numerous districts below 25 cases each. – The Vibes, June 21, 2021
