PUTRAJAYA – The National Unity Ministry will revoke the operating permits of non-Muslim funeral service providers found to have violated Covid-19 lockdown standard operating procedures.
In a statement, the ministry said the SOPs for the management of non-Muslim funerals stipulate that no processions or feasts are allowed.
Only five family members can be present for the preparation of the body and release of ashes, while not more than 10 can attend the funeral at home, the burial site and the crematorium.
A video clip of a funeral procession in Taman Samudera, Kedah, has gone viral, while 11 men have been detained to facilitate investigations into the alleged violation of the SOPs during a funeral procession in Jalan Siram, Penang.
The ministry said it regrets the two incidents, as they pose a Covid-19 infection risk. – Bernama, June 22, 2021
