SEBERANG PRAI – A driver has suffered from second-degree burns after gas barrels on his five-tonne lorry caught fire and exploded at a factory compound here at 2pm today.
The fire spread to other barrels in the compound, resulting in another explosion.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman here said four fire engines from Prai, Bandar Perda, Sg Bakap and Bayan Baru were rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 2.30pm.
“It is believed that the barrels caught fire when the driver was refilling the barrels on his lorry.
“Driver Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman, 50, suffered burns, and was treated by the EMRS team and sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital.”
He said the fire was extinguished at 4.42pm.
“The operation ended at 5.07pm and the location was handed over to the Fire Investigation Division for further action.” – The Vibes, June 23, 2021
