KUALA LUMPUR – Enforcement agencies can conduct movement control order standard operating procedure compliance checks without a warrant, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
He said the matter is provided for under the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021 gazetted on January 14.
“We are currently subjected to the emergency ordinance. We can enter premises that are allowed to operate (during the Covid-19 lockdown) and conduct inspections,” he said after SOP checks at two factories in Puchong and Petaling Jaya today.
Hamzah’s comments follow a statement by SME Association of Malaysia vice-president Chin Chee Seong, who questioned enforcement agencies’ lack of a warrant or official letter when conducting inspections.
On Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers president Tan Sri Soh Thian Lai’s statement that frequent raids have disrupted factory operations, Hamzah said checks are carried out based on public complaints.
On the alleged SOP violation at the Police Training Centre here, he said a probe will be launched.
“Action will be taken against the officers involved if they are found to have violated the SOPs.” – Bernama, June 24, 2021
