KUALA LUMPUR – New Covid-19 infections remained in the upper 5,000s today, with 5,803 cases logged. 

The Health Ministry said this takes the nation’s cumulative tally to 728,462.

Selangor recorded the highest number of infections at 2,108, followed by Negri Sembilan (741), Kuala Lumpur (628), Sarawak (491), Melaka (355), Johor (329) and Pahang (220).

States that saw fewer than 200 cases are Sabah with 189, followed by Kedah (186), Penang (160), Perak (137), Kelantan (103), Labuan (99), Terengganu (29), Putrajaya (24) and Perlis (4). 

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 81 deaths today involved 30 in Selangor, 14 in Kuala Lumpur, 12 in Johor, and nine in Negeri Sembilan.

Sarawak recorded five deaths, Pahang and Melaka had three deaths each, 2 deaths in Labuan, while Penang, Kedah, and Terengganu had one death each.

He said that nine new clusters today were from workplaces, two from detention centres, two from the community, and one from a high-risk group.

In Selangor, the Industri Tg Suria cluster in Kuala Langat and Sepang recorded 26 cases, the Cybersouth Utama construction site cluster, and the Industri Jalan Enam Salak Tinggi cluster in Sepang recorded 15 and 11 cases respectively.

Selangor also logged 21 cases at the Jalan Harapan 2 prison cluster in Gombak.

In Kuala Lumpur, the Pintasan Segambut construction site cluster in Kepong recorded 152 cases.

In Johor Baru, the Jalan Perak cluster registered 10 cases and the Perindustrian Bakri Satu cluster in Muar saw 6 cases.

Penang’s Jalan Usaha Jaya cluster in Seberang Prai Tengah turned in 11 cases.

Kelantan’s Bandar Rantau Panjang cluster in Pasir Mas had 10 cases and the Permatang Pasir Bachok cluster in Bachok had with 18 cases.

In Sabah, the Tembok Tawau detention centre cluster in Tawau registered 9 cases.

Sarawak‘s Nyelutong community cluster in Samarahan, Bentong, Sibu, Lubok Antu, and Sri Aman accumulated a total of  39 cases.
