KUALA LUMPUR – Tringkap in Cameron Highlands will come under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting Monday, after the Health Ministry (MoH) detected widespread Covid-19 transmission at the town.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said MoH detected a total of 70 cases from 592 screenings in the area.
“After conducting a risk assessment with various agencies in the MCO (movement control order) Technical Committee and taking the advice of MoH, the government has agreed to implement an EMCO in Tringkap, Cameron Highlands, Pahang from June 28 to July 11,” he said in a statement today.
Ismail Sabri also said EMCO will be implemented in the area around Bandar Jerantut, Pahang for the same period.
“MoH has detected 186 positive cases from 421 screenings and found a significant increase in the locality with high infectious rates,” he said.
Meanwhile in Sabah, the Kepayan Prison, Bell Palm Oil Mill including its factory housing, Kg Tuunon, Kg Perpaduan Ria 1 and Kg Jawi-Jawi will come under EMCO from June 28 to July 11.
MoH, he said, has detected a significant increase in positive cases in these villages and locations with high infectious rates.
Apart from that, the EMCO on two localities in Kota Belud, Sabah – Kg Tawadakan and Kg Kota Bungan – which is slated to end tomorrow, will be extended until July 11.
Ismail Sabri said the extension comes after MoH detected a rise in Covid-19 transmission among residents at the localities.
On the easing of restrictions, he said the EMCO will be lifted ahead of schedule in Kg Sundang Laut, Sandakan, Sabah. It was due to end next Tuesday.
“After conducting a risk assessment with various agencies in the MCO Technical Committee and taking the advice of MoH, the government agreed to end the EMCO earlier at 11.59pm June 27 (tomorrow), which is earlier than scheduled,” he said.
The EMCO in several localities and villages in Sabah will also be lifted after MoH confirmed reduction of cases and clusters there.
The villages and localities are Kg Indah, Nabawan; Kg Manggis, Kuala Penyu; Kg Baru (SFI), Sipitang; Taman Kinabutan Ria and Simpang Inderasabah, Tawau and Kg Sundang Laut, Sandakan.
The EMCO in Kg Raya, Cameron Highlands will also be lifted tomorrow.
The area includes Sg Ikan, Blue Valley, Taman Matahari Cerah, Taman Desa Corina and Kg Baru Kg Raja.
Meanwhile, he said 735 individuals were nabbed for violating various standard operating procedures (SOPs) yesterday, with compounds issued to 705 of them while 30 others were remanded.
Among top offences were interstate or inter-district travel without permission (153), failure to register details when entering premises (149), not wearing a mask (143) and not observing physical distancing (130). – The Vibes, June 26, 2021
