[UPDATED] Covid-19 daily cases back up at 6,437, 107 deaths, 27 new clusters

KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 6,437 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Malaysia today, as daily infections rose back past the 6,000 mark.

Of the new cases, only 14 are imported.

The Health Ministry said 107 fatalities were also logged in past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 5,108.

There were also 5,298 recoveries, as 905 remain in intensive care, with 455 requiring breathing support.

While Selangor saw fewer than 2,000 new cases yesterday, this climbed up to 2,299 today, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1,361 new cases, as the Klang Valley recorded 3,660 infections, or more than half, of today’s tally.

Negri Sembilan had 700 cases followed by Kedah (284), Johor (271), Melaka (252), Pahang (250), Sarawak (242), Perak (184), Sabah (178), Kelantan (131), Labuan (117), Penang (115), 

Terengganu had 21 new Covid-19 infections today, Putrajaya had 32 and Perlis recorded no new cases.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 107 deaths today involved 43 in Selangor, 16 in Negri Sembilan, 11 in Kuala Lumpur, and 7 each in Kedah and Melaka.

Johor saw 6 fatalities, Sabah, Kelantan, and Labuan recorded 4 each, Pahang and Sarawak logged 2 deaths each, while Terengganu recorded 1 fatality.

Dr Noor Hisham said the country has seen a total of 2,821 clusters, including 27 clusters today.

Clusters that have ended are at 1,934, while 887 remained active.

He added that 11 of the new clusters today are from the community, 12 came from workplaces, 1 from a high-risk group, and another from a learning institution.

Kelantan recorded the Taman Desa An Nur community cluster in Kota Baru with 11 cases, and the Banggol Chicha Ketereh community cluster also in Kota Baru with 10 cases, while Pahang saw the Kg Lada community cluster in Jerantut with 24 cases, and the Sg Ling community cluster in Maran with 14 cases, the Industri Benus workplace cluster in Bentong and Raub with 73 cases, and the Jalan Jaya Temerloh workplace cluster in Temerloh and Maran with 15 cases.

Selangor logged the Jalan Empat Bandar Baru Bangi community cluster in Hulu Langat with 39 cases, the Cahaya Enam community cluster in Sabak Bernam with 13 cases, the Industri Balakong workplace cluster in Hulu Langat with 20 cases, the Jalan PJS Lapan workplace cluster in Petaling with 17 cases, the Sunsuria City workplace cluster in Sepang with 34 cases, and the Industri Sg Chia Satu workplace cluster in Hulu Langat with 11 cases.

Johor registered the Kenawar 69 community cluster in Segamat with 19 cases, the Jalan Bidara community cluster in Tangkak with 10 cases, as well as the Jalan Pee Kang Hai high-risk group cluster in Segamat with 29 cases, while Perak logged the Rimba Raja community cluster in central Perak with 12 cases, and the Kg Jelutong community cluster in Kampar with 13 cases.

Sabah recorded the Muhibbah Menggatal community cluster in Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, and Tuaran with 42 cases, Sarawak logged with Nanga Belungai community cluster in Tatau with 13 cases, while Putrajaya saw the Jalan Putra Sembilan community cluster with 12 cases, and the Jalan Tanggilan education cluster, which extended to Kuala Langat in Selangor, with 9 cases.

Kuala Lumpur logged the Jalan Alor Setar workplace cluster in Cheras with 6 cases, the Jalan Choo Cheng Kay workplace cluster in Lembah Pantai with 12 cases, and the Jalan Tun Razak construction site cluster in Titiwangsa with 25 cases.

Finally, Negri Sembilan recorded the Industri Bunga Tg Satu workplace cluster in Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Port Dickson, and Rembau with 101 cases, the Jalan Dataran Segar workplace cluster in Port Dickson and Seremban with 46 cases, the Jalan TJ 2 workplace cluster in Seremban with 49 cases. – The Vibes, June 29, 2021
