KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor PKR Youth has vehemently objected to the sacking of its chief, Najwan Halimi, saying it was done without any basis or valid reason.
In a statement today, the state wing said: “Representing the members of the Youth wing of all branches in Selangor, we fully object to the decision that was done hastily, recklessly and without consensus from the wing’s state leadership.”
The statement comes after PKR Youth yesterday removed its Selangor and Perlis chiefs as part of the wing’s revamp.
Yesterday, Najwan was quoted as saying that he received a letter from the wing’s secretary, Ahmad Syukri Che Ab Razak, saying the removal was part of the restructuring plan.
He added that his dismissal meant the chapter had to appoint a new chief and hold polls to elect a new committee.
Najwan, who is also Kota Anggerik assemblyman, said an immediate sacking of a state Youth leader is rare.
“My appointment as Selangor PKR Youth chief is the prerogative of the leadership, and I accept the decision.”
Perlis PKR Youth chief Nor Azam Karap was also accorded the same treatment. However, both still maintain their party membership.
PKR Youth, in a statement, said the decision was made during its recent congress and is a progressive step to restructure the leadership and Youth committees in both states.
However, Selangor PKR Youth said during his two-year tenure, Najwan had displayed exemplary leadership and was instrumental in uniting the state Youth wing that was fractured after the “Sheraton Move” in February last year.
“He had also ensured all the views, suggestions and voices of grassroots members in Selangor were brought to the higher levels and were well addressed.
“Therefore, we are expressing our solidarity and full support for Najwan Halimi and demand the national Youth wing chief retract his decision and reinstate Najwan Halimi’s position to ensure stability.”
Meanwhile, the Selangor PKR Youth leaders also expressed their full support for PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, pledging to defend him from being undermined by any party that attempts to weaken or divide the party. – The Vibes, June 29, 2021
