[UPDATED] Covid-19: 6,982 new cases, 6,278 recoveries, 73 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded 6,982 Covid-19 infections, making for a total of 765,949 since the pandemic broke out.

Selangor leads once more with 2,907 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (637), Negri Sembilan (606), Johor (517), Sarawak (440), Penang (351), Pahang (329), Kedah (257), Sabah (230) and Melaka (202).

Perak saw 182 cases, Labuan (131), Kelantan (129), Terengganu (44) and Putrajaya (20).

Perlis logged no infections today.

The Health Ministry also reported 73 new fatalities, pushing up the death toll to 5,327.

Six of the deaths involved patients below 40 years old.

One 38-year-old woman with comorbidities passed away at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man with a history of high blood pressure, dyslipidaemia, and obesity died at Jempol Hospital, Negri Sembilan.

A 30-year-old man, also with a record of obesity, passed away at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar, Johor.

In Penang, a 26-year-old epileptic man was brought in dead at Penang General Hospital.

Also in Penang, a 36-year-old man with no previous illnesses died at Kepala Batas Hospital.

Another man, aged 24, with a history of obesity died in Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital, Kuantan, Pahang.

In Melaka, a 33-year-old man with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure was recorded as dead on arrival at Melaka Hospital.

As for recoveries, 6,278 were registered, taking the total to 694,538.

Of the 905 coronavirus patients in intensive care, 443 require breathing aid.

With regards to clusters, the Health Ministry reports 877 active clusters including the 17 new ones identified today.

Of the 17, nine clusters involve worksites in Johor, Selangor, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, and Penang.

These worksites recorded 262 cases cumulatively.

Meanwhile, the ministry also identified five community-based clusters involving the communities in Kelantan, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah, with a total of 105 infections.
