KOTA KINABALU – With Sabah having called attention to its status as the slowest state to distribute the Covid-19 vaccine, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has promised to review the amount of doses allocated for the state this month.
Khairy also says Sabah will be getting a bigger portion of single-dose jabs after news that the state will only be receiving 675,032 doses, and not the 729,000 doses it was promised earlier.
Yesterday, Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin cited statistics provided by Selangor health, women and family empowerment exco Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud that Sabah would only be getting 675,032 doses in July.
The figures released by healthcare news portal Code Blue indicate that only 17.27 out of every 100 people in the population will be vaccinated.
Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun told The Vibes that the issue was raised at the National Security Council meeting yesterday and Khairy said he would review the allocation.
“He (Khairy) will review the allocation and said Sabah will get a bigger portion of the single-dose vaccines to top it up,” said Masidi.
Masidi had prior to this assured a delivery of 729,000 doses of vaccines this month.
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor said the state aims to inoculate 30,000 people per day in order to vaccinate 2.9 million people by year end, or at latest by 2022. – The Vibes, July 3, 2021
