KUANTAN – The Communications and Multimedia Ministry is trying to get permission for filming activities in studios to be allowed during Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
However, its minister, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, said the proposal will be applicable to only approved studios, to facilitate the monitoring of standard operating procedure compliance to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“We have studios that can be used, including ones under the National Film Development Corporation, in Selangor, Johor and Sarawak, and production companies that have the facilities to allow their studios to be used.
“The number (of studios) is not that many, but at least it can help them earn some income because there are many who work behind the scenes.”
Under current rules, filming activities will be allowed only when the country has entered Phase 3 of NRP, which is when the average daily Covid-19 count drops below 2,000, intensive care unit bed capacity is adequate, and the vaccination rate nationwide is at 40%.
The proposal will be forwarded to the National Security Council for consideration, said Saifuddin, adding that it can also be applied if certain states transition into Phase 2 ahead of others. – Bernama, July 3, 2021
