MIRI – A family of eight that attempted to board a plane into Sarawak was stopped at an airport departure lounge after six tested positive for Covid-19.

The July 1 incident was announced by the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a press release today.

The secretariat however declined to reveal which state the family was coming from.

“There were eight people in the family and six were found positive with Covid-19.

“They tried to fly into Sarawak but were prohibited.

“This shows why Sarawak had to tighten entry requirements, including mandatory swabs three days before departure into Sarawak and a 14-day quarantine in hotels,” said the secretariat.

“Sarawak is worried about the possible entry of people infected with the Delta variant.

“That variant has been found in 10 states now.”

There were 365 new cases in Sarawak today with outbreaks in two new longhouse clusters, namely, the Sg Entajam cluster in Tatau district with 41 cases and Sg Pelepak cluster in Meradong with 26 cases.

There was one new fatality involving a woman aged 59 in Kanowit, bringing the state’s death toll to 419.

Kuching district recorded 63 cases, Sibu 54, Tatau 41, Saratok 31, Meradong 28, Telang Usan 24, Kanowit 19, Miri 18, and Bintulu 14, with and numerous other districts logging below 10 new cases each. – The Vibes, July 4, 2021
