KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded 6,387 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total caseload to 785,039.

The nation registered 77 deaths, bringing the death toll to 5,574.

A total of 4,532 patients recovered, while 923 are in intensive care, with 433 in need of intubation.

Selangor remains the state with the highest number of infections at 2,610, followed by Kuala Lumpur (819), Negri Sembilan (523), Sarawak (424), Johor (324) and Pahang (312).

States with fewer than 300 cases are Kedah (273), Sabah (263), Perak (249), Melaka (206), Penang (157), Kelantan (114), Labuan (71), Putrajaya (25) and Terengganu (17).

Perlis has no fresh infections.

The Health Ministry reported 13 new clusters today, resulting in 2,931 clusters since the start of the pandemic.

Of the total, 855 remain active, while 2,076 have ended.

Of the 77 deaths today, Selangor claimed 30, Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan (10 each), Melaka (8), Johor (7), Kedah and Pahang (4 each), Kelantan (3) and Labuan (1).

The youngest victim to succumb to Covid-19 was a 29-year-old man, who was obese and had diabetes. He was brought in dead to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.

The oldest victim was an 87-year-old man, who had high blood pressure. He was also brought in dead to the same hospital.

As of yesterday, Malaysia registered an average infectivity rate (R-naught) of 1.06.

The states with the highest R-naught are Pahang and Putrajaya, at 1.17.

Out of the 13 clusters, 11 are from worksites and two from the community, and involve Kedah, Johor, Pahang, Penang, Kelantan, Negri Sembilan, Sabah and Sarawak. – The Vibes, July 5, 2021
