BUTTERWORTH – The Penang opposition leader has openly supported the #benderaputih campaign for households in dire need of assistance.

Sg Dua assemblyman Datuk Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor told The Vibes that by flying the white flag, it will be easier for the people, especially local representatives, to distribute aid.

The campaign need not be politicised as it represents good intentions to help those aggrieved by the Covid-19 pandemic, he said.

“I will support the initiative. There is nothing wrong in seeking help.

“The pandemic undermines the livelihoods of many people; hardly anyone is spared.”

Yusoff said indicators such as the white flag can boost the role of aid agencies and assemblymen in helping the people.

However, he added, he is disappointed with the inconsistency of the Perikatan Nasional government in channelling aid to elected representatives, resulting in him having to raise his own funds to help those in need.

He said he is waiting for the funds pledged by Penang to help the 40 constituencies in the state. – The Vibes, July 6, 2021
