KUALA LUMPUR – Umno will definitely withdraw its support from Perikatan Nasional (PN) with the party waiting for its Supreme Council to finalise the decision, said Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
The Umno Supreme Council member claimed party members are excited and in favour of the decision as they have waited for a long time to finally ‘pull the plug’ on the PN administration.
“For Umno, political honesty has long gone. Umno is doing it for the rakyat because the government of the day has failed.
“Umno does not want to be embroiled in it anymore.
“The party must leave the inefficient government because its policies and methods have been proven wrong,” he said on Facebook today.
However, he pointed out that some party members are also worried as they would be losing their positions and privileges.
“The most important privilege is the protection from action by the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) and the IRB (Inland Revenue Board).
“This is why there are some who are willing to be ‘power brokers’ and sell the party,” he said.
“Of course PM 8 (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin), (Datuk Seri Mohamed) Azmin’s (Ali) ‘gang’, ‘frog cluster’ from Umno and Bersatu are afraid.
“The PN government can collapse any time.”
Puad’s remarks come after a series of ‘discrete’ Supreme Council meetings over recent days.
It is understood that Umno MPs, cabinet members and leaders, including party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, met yesterday.
It is learnt that an official Supreme Council meeting will be held virtually, tomorrow.
According to a source privy to the matter, the leaders gathered to urge Zahid to not make a rash decision to leave Perikatan Nasional, following the Umno president’s proposal to pull the party out of the PN government this week. – The Vibes, July 6, 2021
