KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob clocked in on day one as deputy prime minister at his new office at Perdana Putra this morning.

He scanned in at 10.09am, with Bernama TV posting a video of Ismail Sabri, dressed in a blue-grey suit, punching in for the day.

The Bera MP was quoted by The Star as saying he has a tight schedule.

“It will be a busy day for me today.”

He arrived at the complex about 10am, welcomed by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali and Prime Minister’s Department Senior Deputy Secretary-General Datuk Jamil Rakon.

Despite speculation that Ismail Sabri needs to be sworn in to assume his new post, it is understood that this may not be necessary as the senior minister is already a member of the cabinet, holding the defence portfolio, and previously, in charge of the security cluster.

The Umno vice-president’s promotion was announced by the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday as part of a minor reshuffle that also saw Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein being promoted as a senior minister and taking over duties related to the security cluster.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has also agreed to the Sembrong lawmaker assisting him in implementing the National Recovery Plan. – The Vibes, July 9, 2021
