[UPDATED] Covid-19 cases hit all-time high of 9,180, 4,400 in S’gor alone

KUALA LUMPUR – The number of new Covid-19 cases is continuing to spike in the country with 9,180 infections logged, the highest daily figures Malaysia has seen since the outbreak began early last year.

Yesterday saw 8,868 new cases.

The Health Ministry said this takes the cumulative tally to 817,838 coronavirus infections. 

Selangor remains the state with the highest number of cases at 4,400, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,271), Negri Sembilan (899), Kedah (417), Sarawak (406), Sabah (323) and Johor (315).

States that saw fewer than 300 cases are Perak with 241, followed by Melaka (222), Pahang (214), Kelantan (151), Penang (142), Terengganu (82), Labuan (80), Putrajaya (16) and Perlis (1).

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted that 16% of today’s cases are linked to clusters, while 84% were detected following stepped-up mass screening in red-zone subdistricts under the enhanced movement control order.

The ministry reported another 77 virus fatalities, driving up the death toll to 5,980.

Another 5,713 recoveries make for a total of 731,193.

Of the 959 patients in intensive care, 465 require breathing aid.

Dr Noor Hisham said of the 77 deaths today, 28 are in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (17) and Melaka (9). 

Johor and Negri Sembilan recorded five deaths each, Pahang has four, and three were in Sarawak. 

Perak and Terengganu recorded two deaths each, while Kedah and Labuan have one each.

He said 21 new clusters today were from workplaces, four from community clusters, three from detention centres, and one each from an education group and one in the high-risk group – a total of 30 more clusters.

In Selangor, the Industri Jalan Kusta cluster in Gombak and Petaling registered 18 cases, the Zone T Selatan cluster in Sepang and Kuala Langat recorded 55 cases, the Industri Jalan Telok Gong cluster in Klang recorded 46 cases, and the Industri Nakhoda cluster in Sabak Bernam logged eight cases today. 

Also in Selangor, the Industri Jalan Satu Selesa Jaya cluster in Hulu Langat registered 14 cases, the Industri Jalan Gombak Batu 11 cluster in Gombak recorded 31 cases, the Pagar Taman IKS detention centre cluster had 51 cases, and the Jalan Desa Putera cluster in Klang logged 14 cases. 

Kuala Lumpur recorded the Jalan Ipoh Kecil cluster in Lembah Pantai with 13 cases, the Jalan Matang cluster in Kepong with 22 cases, and the Jalan Khoo Teik Ee construction site cluster in Lembah Pantai and Cheras with 199 cases. 

In Johor, the Batu Lapan Bakri cluster in Muar logged 33 cases today, the Jalan Bukit Bakri cluster with 11 cases, and the Jalan Haji Jaib cluster with 12 cases. 

Johor also recorded the Jalan Duku Kiri cluster in Johor Baru with seven cases, the Jalan Sri Plentong Tiga cluster with nine cases, and the Persiaran Agas cluster in Tangkak, Muar, and Segamat with 18 cases. 

Melaka registered the Taman Merdeka Permai cluster in Melaka Tengah with 21 cases and the Taman Cempaka cluster also in Melaka Tengah with 21 cases. 

In Pahang, the Jalan Desa Putera cluster in Klang logged 14 cases today. 

Perak has recorded the Jalan Saw Ah Choy cluster in Larut, Matang, and Selama with 23 cases, while the Jalan Seramik Chepor 11/1 cluster in Kuala Kangsar and Kinta logged 20 cases. 

Negri Sembilan registered the Bina Bidara construction site cluster in Seremban with 75 cases. 

In Sarawak, the Jalan Pasar Basah Mukah cluster in Mukah and Dalat recorded 32 cases, the Benteng Sri Aman cluster in Sri Aman with 38 cases, and the Tembok Miri cluster in Miri with 59 cases today. 

Kelantan today registered the Taman Bismi Rahmat cluster in Tanah Merah with 13 cases, the Kg Bunut Satut cluster in Kota Baru with nine cases, and the Kg Gelugor cluster in Tanah Merah with 15 cases. 

Sabah logged the Sawit Segama cluster in Lahad Datu with 15 cases today. – The Vibes, July 9, 2021
