LABUAN – A container carrying 25,200kg of frozen chicken from Denmark has been apprehended by the Malaysian Quarantine Inspection Services (Maqis) Labuan.
The animal product worth RM246,400 which was being shipped in by a container was apprehended at the Dermaga and Merdeka Port here on June 30.
According to a media statement issued by Maqis, initial investigations revealed that the import permit used to bring in the animal product has expired.
“Failure to have a certified import permit is an offence under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728).
“Those found guilty can be fined not more than RM100,000, jailed not more than six years, or both,” it said.
