[UPDATED] Covid-19 cases dip below 9,000, under 5,000 in Klang Valley; 102 deaths logged

KUALA LUMPUR – New Covid-19 infections in Malaysia dipped below 9,000 today. 

The Health Ministry reported that 8,574 cases were logged nationwide in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative tally to 844,870.

40 cases were imported.

There were 5,041 recoveries today, leaving active cases at 97,532.

Selangor recorded the most number of new cases again with 4,308, Negri Sembilan had 794 and Kuala Lumpur saw a marked drop from recent days with just 609 cases today. 

Kedah recorded 415 new Covid-19 infections, Melaka (411), Johor (407), Pahang (314), Sabah (298), Sarawak (235), Penang (231), Perak (168), Terengganu (140) and Kelantan (133).

Labuan notched up 66 cases, Putrajaya had 45 cases and Perlis went back down to zero new infections.

There were 102 fatalities from the coronavirus in Malaysia today, as the death toll rose to 6,260. 

964 Covid-19 patients are in intensive care, with 452 needing ventilator support.

Sixteen new Covid-19 clusters were detected, with half of them categorised as from the community.

These eight clusters are in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perak and Sarawak, with a total of 139 infections.

The ministry reported five worksite clusters in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan and Putrajaya, with 93 cases overall.

Three high-risk individual clusters were identified in Selangor, Johor and Kelantan, with a total of 27 infections.

The ministry said the national infectivity rate today stands at 1.15.

By state, Putrajaya saw the highest rate at 1.31, followed by Selangor (1.19), Kuala Lumpur and Kedah (both 1.17), Pahang (1.14), Sabah, Melaka and Terengganu (all 1.08), Perak (1.07), Penang (1.05), Negri Sembilan and Johor (both 1.02), Kelantan (0.95), Labuan (0.9), Sarawak (0.85) and Perlis (0). – The Vibes, July 12, 2021
