KUALA LUMPUR – Royal Pahang Durian has threatened to take legal action against parties trying to smear the fruit company’s name after it was dragged into the ongoing conflict between the durian farmers and the Pahang Forestry Department.
The company, wishing to set the record straight, stated that the actions by the Forestry Department does not concern the company’s present activities.
In a statement, today Royal Pahang Durian also took the opportunity to stand by the state government’s assertion that the enforcement activities conducted by the department were within bounds of the law.
“As mentioned by the Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, the enforcement operation is carried out outside the area that is the subject of a pending court case between farmers and six parties including the Raub District Land Administrator, Pahang Forestry director and Royal Pahang Durian Resources PKPP Sdn Bhd.
“Hence, it does not have any connection with any of Royal Pahang Durian Group’s activities,” the statement read.
The durian farming and processing company also stressed that it adheres to regulations and has received the necessary approvals to conduct its 404ha durian cultivation activities in Pamah Lebar, Tras, Raub.
“We will not hesitate to act by taking legal action against any parties that attempt to insinuate and smear us,” the statement added.
Yesterday, in a statement, Tras assemblyman Chow Yu Hui slammed the Pahang government for destroying 15,000 durian trees at the Batu Talam Forest Reserve, while it awarded 1,213 ha of forest land to a state-linked firm.
The DAP lawmaker went on to accuse the state government of hypocrisy given the latter’s excuse for destroying the trees was to protect the forest reserve.
He had claimed that this was due to the fact that the land which was awarded to Royal Pahang Durian was initially classified as a water catchment area and the habitat for endangered Malayan tigers. – The Vibes, July 13, 2021
