S’wak cops raid 2 online gambling dens raking in RM4 mil

MIRI – Police busted two online gambling centres operating at a condominium in Kuching, said to have been earning revenues of more than RM4 million in the past few months.

Kuching police chief Ahsmon Bajah today said police raided the condominium in Jalan Ming Chung in the state capital yesterday, and found two units that were used as illicit gambling centres.

“There were 13 individuals, comprising both locals and foreigners, involved in running the two online gambling centres.

“Those arrested are aged between 17 and 37, and included undocumented foreigners.

“Between them, they have been earning more than RM4 million from online gambling in the past few months.”

During the raid, Ahsmon said, three men jumped from a unit on the second floor in a bid to escape.

Two were injured – one suffered a broken pelvis and the other, a broken leg – while the third got away, he added.

Those arrested have been remanded, and police are tracking down the mastermind behind the operations.

Ahsmon called on the public to keep an eye out for illicit activities in their neighbourhood.

Police also seized computers, mobile phones and other gadgets during the raid. – The Vibes, July 14, 2021
