[UPDATED] Whopping 11,618 Covid-19 cases recorded, 5,051 in S’gor, and 118 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 count continues to rise with a staggering 11,618 cases logged today, beating the 11,079 recorded yesterday, the first time the tally breached five figures.

Of the new cases, only 26 are imported.

The Health Ministry said 118 fatalities were logged today, taking the death toll to 6,503.

There were also 6,377 recoveries, with 878 in intensive care and 432 requiring breathing support.

The Health Ministry reported 5,051 fresh infections in Selangor, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,749) and Negri Sembilan (1,537).

Melaka saw 526 cases, Kedah (504), Pahang (400), Johor (396), Sarawak (289), Sabah (286), Kelantan (236) and Penang (210).

Terengganu registered 189 cases, Perak (164), Putrajaya (40), Labuan (38) and Perlis (3).

The latest infections take the nation’s total to 867,567.

Meanwhile, Sarawak saw four more deaths, taking its death toll to 439.

The latest fatalities involved a woman, 55, in Kapit Hospital; a man, 71, in Serian Hospital; a man, 84, in Song; and, a man, 47, in Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching.

Of the 289 new infections today, Kuching has 137, Sibu (31), Bukit Mabong (16), Samarahan (14), Miri (12) and other districts fewer than 10 cases each.

Sarawak has three new clusters: the Dayoh cluster in Bau saw 23 people in a village infected; the Jalan Teo Kai Ngo cluster in Meradong involves 53 residents; while the Sentosa 2 cluster in Kuching saw 52 infected people in a mental health facility.

Dr Noor Hisham said the country’s infectivity rate (Rt) rate stands at 1.16 as of yesterday. 
 
The highest Rt is in Putrajaya at 1.35, followed by Terengganu (1.26), Selangor (1.19), Kedah (1.17), Pahang (1.14), Kuala Lumpur (1.11), Penang (1.11), Melaka (1.10), Sabah (1.07), Negri Sembilan (1.06), Johor (1.05), Perak (1.04) and Kelantan (1.02).
 
He said the deaths today involved 46 in Selangor, 18 here, 16 in Negri Sembilan and 13 in Johor. 
 
Kedah recorded five deaths, Sabah and Sarawak saw four deaths each, while Labuan, Kelantan, Perak, Pahang and Melaka saw two deaths each. 
 
Penang and Terengganu recorded one death each today. 
 
Of the 26 clusters today, 15 were from workplaces, seven from the community, and four from high-risk groups. 
 
Selangor registered the Industri Alam Jaya 2/3 cluster in Kuala Selangor and Gombak with 33 cases, the Jalan Medan Seksyen Sembilan cluster in Hulu Selangor with 15 cases, and the Industri Jalan Mas Tujuh cluster in Sepang with five cases. 
 
Also in Selangor, the Jalan 11 Medan community cluster in Sepang logged eight cases, the Desa Kemandol cluster in Kuala Langat recorded 19 cases, and the Jalan Pahat 15 high-risk group cluster in Petaling and Sepang saw 104 cases today. 
 
Here in the capital, the Tapak Bina Metropolis 2 cluster in Kepong logged 69 cases, the Jalan Sinar Sentul cluster in Kepong recorded nine cases, the Jalan Ampang Sejahtera cluster in Titiwangsa registered seven cases, while the Lorong Ara cluster in Lembah Pantai logged 12 cases. 
 
Johor registered the Persiaran Teknologi 11 workplace cluster in Kulai and Johor Baru with 15 cases, the Jalan Dian 19 cluster in Johor Baru with 11 cases, and the Lorong Aik Hwa cluster in Muar with 15 cases. 
 
In Kedah, the Dah Ketil Industri Baling cluster in Baling, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Sik saw 31 cases, the Dah Saga Industri Sg Petani cluster in Kuala Muda and Kulim logged 75 cases, and the Dah Melor cluster in Sik, Baling, Pendang and Kuala Muda recorded 49 cases. 
 
Melaka logged the Jalan Lebuh Ayer Keroh cluster in Melaka Tengah, Jasin, and Alor Gajah with 33 cases, the Jalan Jasin Bestari cluster in Jasin with 47 cases, and the Jalan D’Aranjo cluster in Melaka Tengah with 26 cases. 
 
In Sarawak, the Jalan Teo Kui Ngo cluster in Meradong recorded 13 cases, the Duyoh community cluster in Bau saw 22 cases, while the Sentosa 2 high-rise group cluster in Kuching, Samarahan and Asajaya logged 52 cases. 
 
Sabah registered the Kg Melamam cluster with 37 cases. 
 
In Terengganu, the Murni Perdana cluster in Marang and Dungun saw 43 cases. 
 
Terengganu’s Bukit Tok Bat cluster involving Hulu Terengganu, Setiu, Besut and Bentong in Pahang logged 30 cases while Kelantan recorded the Jalan Kelaboran cluster in Tumpat with 11 cases. – The Vibes, July 14, 2021
