KUALA LUMPUR – A doctor urging netizens to join the Code Black online protest is now being investigated by police.

In a statement today, Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said “code black” is typically used as a distress call or emergency alert when there is a threat against medical personnel, or a bomb threat.

The Code Black campaign is in solidarity with medical personnel hired on a contract basis.

“A six-minute, 49-second clip shows an individual introducing himself as Dr Han @ Gigi Han, who criticised the contractual appointment scheme for doctors in the public sector,” said Jalil.

“The individual also accused the system adopted by the government as being capable of affecting the lives of all Malaysians.”

Based on the statement, it is understood that the doctor called on social media users to change their profile pictures to black or monochrome from July 1 to 12, and to upload these photos with the hashtags #SaveMYcontractHCW, #CodeBlackMY and #BlackMondayMY.

Jalil said investigations will be conducted under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998.

“The probe is being conducted under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for inciting individuals or parties to commit offences, and Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act for wrongful use of network services.

“Investigation papers will be completed swiftly and referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.” – The Vibes, July 14, 2021
