KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin appealed to Malaysians to be patient and not buy into the campaign that the government has failed to effectively handle the Covid-19 pandemic.
He also said the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee should consider relaxing movement restrictions for those who have completed both vaccine doses.
This may include dining in and travel, he said today, after announcing a RM21 million allocation for Phase 1 of the food basket assistance programme.
“While the government is addressing the pandemic, the people can slowly resume their way of life, just like the times before (the pandemic).”
Muhyiddin said the food basket programme is proof of the government’s commitment to preserve the well-being of the people.
The programme must be continued and carried out, especially by the National Welfare Foundation, to assist the poor, he added.
“Management of people’s welfare cannot be compromised until Covid-19 is addressed.”
The RM21 million allocation is meant for the distribution of 420,000 food baskets – each is worth RM50 and contains goods such as rice, sugar, salt, flour, rice vermicelli, soy sauce, canned sardines, biscuits and coffee.
Of the total, RM5 million comes from the government and RM16 million from corporations.
He said the allocation does not include the 2.3 million food baskets, worth RM173.4 million, that have been distributed since March last year. – The Vibes, July 15, 2021
