PENAMPANG – Penampang has again been inundated after a fresh round of floods hits the semi-urban district, making it the fourth time this year.

About 12 villages and residential areas, and 10 roads in the Kadazan heartland were submerged in water, following a heavy downpour that began yesterday afternoon.

The district was also hit with similar incidents in January, May and last month.

Sg Moyog recorded a water level of 9.4m, with the district Disaster Management Committee issuing a danger-level alert.

“Among the areas affected by floods are Taman Donggongon, Kg Dabak, Kg Gunsing, Kg Inobong, Kg Kambau, Kg Kolopis, Kg Kibabaig, Kg Nambazan, Kg Tuavon and the general Penampang area, involving thousands of residents,” said the committee in a statement today.

“Roads that are inaccessible due to the floods include Jalan Datuk Panglima Banting, Jalan Dakata, Jalan Inobong, Jalan Kasigui, Jalan Kolopis and Jalan Tuavon.”

Penampang’s iconic landmark – the Sigah roundabout, which displays a massive sculpture of the Kadazan traditional headdress – was also inundated. – The Vibes, July 15, 2021
